Everything you need to know about your Cake Smash and Splash photos in Plymouth

Planning to book Cake Smash and Splash photos in Plymouth? Here I have provided a little guide with everything you need to know before your session. (And please check out my blog to see my most recent birthday sessions!)

Booking a DATE for your Cake Smash and Splash photos in Plymouth

I always ask that you book your cake smash and splash session at least one month before your planned session date. This gives us plenty of time to plan a really special and bespoke photo shoot. It also gives me to time to make sure we have the right coloured balloons ready! To get booked in please click here. (A deposit is required to secure the date in my diary).

Some parents love to have the session on the birthday itself. Great! It is a perfect way to celebrate the special day! Please get in touch really early to ensure I can fit you in the diary on the birth date itself.

Booking a TIME for your Cake Smash and Splash photos in Plymouth

We want your little person to be SUPER happy and ready for gorgeous photos. Best way to do this – make sure they are well napped and well fed! I always ask that we plan your session around your little persons nap time. We want them to be well rested and ready to have some fun with cake.

Planning your birthday photos

Getting really special photos to commemorate your little person reaching one is so important! We want you to really love your photos. This is why the planning stages are so important. Have you got a favourite colour or maybe a party theme? Let’s get it included in your photos!

The cake

This is probably the most important part of the session! And let’s face it – we all love cake!

I suggest that in the weeks before the session you start letting your little one taste cake and icing. It can be a very new and intense taste. We want them to be really excited about their big cake!

Currently I can supply a cake for a cake smash session at the cost of £40 from a local Plymouth bakery. Alternatively you are more than welcome to source your own cake. I suggest going for a Victoria sandwich cake with butter cream icing. This helps make the most mess and smashes perfectly for the session! If you need any further advice regarding cake please get in touch.

The outfit

Some babies are big and some babies are small. We want their birthday outfit to fit perfectly ready for photos! I ask that you supply an outfit that will fit your child. If you would like any advice please get in touch when we are planning your session. It is always best that the outfit fully covers your baby’s nappy so it is not visible in the portraits.

Alternatively I am happy to source an outfit of my choice to suit your theme and child’s measurements at the cost of £25. You will then be able to keep the outfit after the session.

The day of your birthday photo shoot

Here are a few little tips for on the day. Don’t worry – I will send you an email with a reminder before your session!

  • I like to start all sessions with portraits of your child. Make sure that they have a lovely clean face and a fresh nappy on.
  • Bring your child’s favourite snack with you. Some kids hate going near the cake. It is a little scary and they just aren’t used to be told to mush up food! I sometimes pop a favourite snack discreetly on the cake to entice them to touch the cake.
  • The splash part of the session is a lot of fun but we tend to get rather wet! I provide towels during the session but please feel free to bring you own towel too should you wish.
  • Bring something super comfy for your little one to wear on their way home. Maybe pyjamas. They will be SO tired after all the fun and are likely to want a little nap.

After your cake smash and splash photos

Each and every photo is a work of art. I take time individually editing each photo that you see in your gallery. This means that it will typically take me up to 2 weeks to edit your gallery and get it delivered back to you.

Bespoke products such as wood blocks and acrylics can take up to 8 weeks to arrive. I always love to see photos on the walls rather than stuck on the computer for no one to see! Each package I offer some money off wall art to help towards the cost. Consider it my gift to you.

I hope that this guide has helped prepare you for your cake smash and splash photos. I am really excited to work with you and your family. For more photos of my studio work please have a browse here!
